How To Attach Velcro Disc

Prepare the Velcro Disc

Before attaching the velcro disc, ensure that the sander pad is clean and free from any debris or residue from previous use. This will help to establish a strong bond between the pad and the velcro disc.

Align the Disc

Hold the velcro disc with the abrasive side facing down and carefully align it with the sander pad. The velcro hooks on the velcro disc should align with the loop surface on the sander pad.

Press Firmly

Apply even pressure to the velcro disc, pressing it firmly onto the sander pad. Make sure to distribute the pressure evenly across the entire surface of the disc. This will ensure a secure attachment and prevent any slippage during sanding.

Test the Attachment

To confirm that the velcro disc is securely attached, give it a gentle tug or rotate the sander pad slightly. If the disc remains firmly in place, you can proceed with your sanding task.

Choice of Velcro Disc

Grit- The grit of a Velcro disc defines coarseness and fineness of an abrasive material. Discs with higher grit number are finer and are used for polishing and finishing, while stock with lower grit are used for heavy stock material are coarse. Assure yourself while choosing the material.

A: If you seem to have difficulty removing a velcro disc, try warming it up with a hair dryer before peeling it off. To eliminate this problem altogether, try switching your sander to the hook and loop system.

Q: The velcro discs on my orbital sander keep flying off. I think I need to replace my pad. How do I do that?

A: You can replace just the hook portion of your sander without buying a whole new head. Once you have a replacement velcro disc, you need to remove the used velcro disc. When this velcro disc is removed, wash pad with lacquer thinner before applying the new velcro disc. If the used disc will not come off the backing pad, you must use a razor blade scraper and scrape the little back hoods off and then sand smooth.
